The Historic Ashtabula Station (#237) was built in 1938. This building has served as barracks for 62 years. The coastguard moved into a new facility across the river in 2000, because of the active coal conveyor over the river and limited accommodations for women. ODNR then occupied the building until 2016. Once they moved out, the building sat vacant for 4 years. Harbor Yak, a kayak & boat rental business then moved into the boat house in 2020, and expanded into the three bay garage in 2021. Now the 9th District is operating out of what was the main living quarters. They’ve been renovating the interior since 2023. There will be four private suites, and even a small museum on the first floor to honor the building’s history.
